Book Review: The Infinite Retina

I have previously read The Fourth Transformation by Robert Scoble as well and couldn’t wait to read this new one that he co-wrote with Irena Cronin. The Infinite Retina is a look to the future where the authors see Spatial Computing coming to the forefront of how we live, work and play.

Summary

The Infinite Retina is focused on 6 technologies that it thinks will greatly impact the future that can be group together to be known as Spatial Computing.

  1. Display and optics
  2. Wireless and Communications
  3. Control Mechanism (Voice, Eyes, Hands)
  4. Sensors and Mapping
  5. Computing Architectures
  6. Artificial Intelligence (Decision Systems)

Together, the data dance between them will cause the following 7 verticals to be changed and they are explained with examples in the book.

  1. Transportation
  2. Entertainment
  3. Manufacturing
  4. Retail
  5. Healthcare
  6. Finance
  7. Education

Spatial Computing is close to our heart as we do a lot of work in immersive media like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality but sometimes we are really focused on the current state of technology and reading this book helps broaden our horizon and see the possibilities of how the technology will be used with other technologies in 5-10 years time.

If you have an interest in how the world may look like in the future, check this book out! Also the previous book The Fourth Transformation may be a little outdated but it is still a great read, shorter and in an informal easy to consume writing style.
